Commercial Solar Systems

NG/E has delivered solar PV projects across water utilities, airports, wineries, mining operations, retail centres and manufacturing facilities. Our capability covers design, engineering, procurement, construction, HV works, network connection support, commissioning and ongoing operational support.
Melbourne Water solar farm

Melbourne Water

Location Bangholme and Christmas Hills, Victoria
System Size 28MWp PV
Key Equipment SMA MVPS, Nextracker 1P, JA Modules

Construction of two major ground mount solar farms at Melbourne Water’s Eastern Treatment Plant in Bangholme and Winneke Water Treatment Plant in Christmas Hills, Victoria.

Key outcomes

  • Contributing to Melbourne Water’s commitment to reducing net carbon emissions to 50% of baseline levels and creating a pathway to net zero by 2030.
  • Constructed the Winneke solar farm across sloping terrain with minimal soil disturbance, protecting water quality in the nearby Sugarloaf Reservoir.
  • Delivered DC electrical and mechanical installation using NG/E’s internal construction team.
Melbourne Airport solar project

Melbourne Airport

Location Tullamarine, Victoria
System Size 12.2MWp PV
1.78MWp Rooftop PV
Key Equipment Trina and Jinko Modules, SMA MVPS and ABB Inverters, S-Rack and Cleanergy Racking

Design and construction of multiple renewable energy projects at Melbourne Airport in Tullamarine, including a fixed tilt solar farm and a rooftop solar PV system with MV inverter and high voltage ring main unit at the Agility Logistics warehouse.

Key outcomes

  • The solar farm is designed to offset 15% of Melbourne Airport’s electricity consumption and power all four passenger terminals at full output.
  • The Agility warehouse rooftop connects to APAM’s 22kV ring feeder, extending the airport’s ability to offset its loads with renewable generation.
  • Delivered works within a fully operational airport environment, with no disruption to operations and no safety impacts to facility personnel or the public.
Casella Wines solar farm

Casella Wines

Location Yenda, New South Wales
System Size 5.7MWp PV
Key Equipment Trina Solar Vanguard 2P Modules, SMA Sunny Central Inverter

Design and construction of a single-axis tracking solar farm at Casella Wines, Yenda NSW. Scope included full HV works to install a 3km, 33kV underground HV cable.

Key outcomes

  • Facilitated the Essential Energy network connection and managed the end-to-end grid connection process. This included network design approvals and energisation across Casella’s private 33kV network and the Essential Energy distribution network.
  • One of the largest ground-mount solar farms installed for an Australian winery.
  • First Trina Vanguard 2P tracking system installed in Australia.
  • All civils, mechanical build, panelling and DC/AC electrical works were completed on time and to budget.
Iluka Resources solar farm

Iluka Resources

Location Cataby, Western Australia
System Size 9.5MWp PV
Key Equipment SMA MVPS, Nextracker, Trina Modules

Design and construction of a single-axis tracking solar farm at Iluka Resources’ Cataby mine site in Western Australia, approximately two hours north of Perth.

Key outcomes

  • Part of a 10-year Power Purchase Agreement to provide ongoing on-site renewable power to Iluka’s Cataby mine facilities.
  • Bespoke civil installation methodology developed to overcome highly sandy soils, including benching of trenches and water soaking to stabilise trench walls.
  • Integrated with an existing operational mine facility, ensuring the design and installation methodology complied with Iluka’s detailed OHS and installation specifications.
QIC rooftop solar project

QIC Tranche 1 & 2

Location Multiple shopping centres across QLD, NSW and VIC
System Size 5MW+ Rooftop PV
Key Equipment Canadian Solar Modules, Sungrow Inverters, Sunlock Racking

Engineering, procurement, construction and maintenance of roof-mounted solar systems across multiple shopping centres in Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria.

Key outcomes

  • Delivered across Bathurst City Centre, Domain Central, Nerang Mall, The Village, Eastland and Woodgrove.
  • Projects are funded through a scheme of large-scale power purchase agreements.
  • Included four major switchboard upgrades at Eastland and Woodgrove Shopping Centres.
  • Tranche 1 of the program is expected to collectively save $11 million, with savings across the life of the program expected to total around $30 million.

Frucor Suntory

Location Swanbank, Queensland
System Size 3.595MWp PV
Key Equipment Longi Solar Modules, Flush Mounted Rooftop System, SMA MV Power Station

Design, construction and maintenance of a rooftop solar PV system with HV connection at Frucor Suntory’s Swanbank facility.

Key outcomes

  • The rooftop solar PV system offsets a significant portion of the site’s daytime energy consumption, reducing grid reliance and lowering operational energy costs.
  • The system was successfully energised in October 2025, with HV works completed to connect to both Frucor Suntory’s private 11kV network and the Energex distribution network.
  • NG/E continues to provide ongoing maintenance services, ensuring long-term system performance and reliability for Frucor Suntory.
